Sourcing inspiration from the community, audio recordings, newspapers and pop-culture, this year’s VOZ ALTA bares the passionate expressions of longing to belong, becoming family, and the quest for cultural identity. The show sheds light onto opposing points of views and perspectives from our LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgendered, & Queer), Latino Immigrant, religious right, and anti-immigrant communities; it expresses the heart and soul of what it is to be Latino and Gay, and revels in the joy of personal freedom. The show is performed in both English and Spanish. Joining Edna and Joaquin is actor Nurys Herrera and musician Amy Vanacore.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS: This year’s VOZ ALTA event will also feature the artwork of three local artists: Angela Bolaños-Osorio, Chris Beanes and La Sergio. Together they will present a show in three parts: Love, Migration and Nuestra Voz/Our Voice, featuring sculpture, photography, and mural art. It opens to the public at 7pm and may be viewed during the reception from 7-8pm. It will again be displayed during the culminating festival event for Portland Latino Gay Pride at the East Esplanade, Sunday, July 17th.
