Mariposa Award
Leerlo en español!May 19th, 2008 Filed under: Uncategorized by davidmThree year’s ago Portland Latino Gay Pride was formed and held it’s first celebration - Noche de Familia y Mariposas/Night of Family and Butterflies. Some people may know that “mariposa” is a slang term used in many Latin American countries to describe someone who is gay. It is not always used in a respectful manner.
We decided to change that by celebrating who we are and taking PRIDE in the “mariposa” inside of all of us.
For our 2008 Portland Latino Gay Pride Celebration we are instituting the First Annual Mariposa Awards. We believe it’s important to honor those whose work and contributions, are making a difference. The outstanding individuals and organizations will be recognized at the:
