Portland Latino Gay Pride Planning Committee - in action
Assemblyman John Pérez, an openly gay Latino Democrat from Los Angeles,
made history Thursday when he was unanimously chosen by the Assembly’s
Democratic Caucus to succeed Karen Bass as the lower house’s leader.
Pérez, a freshman lawmaker who is expected to be formally voted in as the
68th Assembly speaker in January, will become the body’s first openly gay
leader.
“It’s obviously an incredibly moving experience to have the unanimous
support of my colleagues,” Pérez, 40, said shortly after the caucus vote.
“I think it says more about California than it does about me - it means
that California is a place where everybody has a seat at the table, that
we’re a state where everybody brings forward their contributions.”

Hola Amigos:
Great kick off meeting for PLGP( Portland Latino Gay Pride). Happy to see so many beautiful faces and so much enthusiasm just what we need to get La Lucha Twenty-ten started! The meeting lasted two hours, many topics were discussed from the history of PLGP to the vision for 2010.
Portland Latino Gay Pride was founded by David Martinez and Melanie Davis in 2006.
The Festival is held every first weekend in June.
Next year’s festival will be PLGP’s 5th yr Anniversary so we will be celebrating for 5 days from June 2nd to June 6th.
With the success of LA LUCHA 2009 it was decided to continue with the same theme.
Previous festivials were; Papis y Chicas in 2008, Noche de Fuego in 2007 and Noche de Familia y Mariposas in 2006.
Last years LA LUCHA was able to get us recognized on a national level and open the door to many amazing opportunities that will be included this year.
We will still have some of the events from last year like: Voz Alta, La Lucha Dance, Mariposa Award and Chicas who Brunch.
We have many great ideas for next yr as well like:
1.Noche de Reynas
2.More youth involvment
3.Having speakers from El Salvador
4.Reaching out state wide
5.Visual Art Exhibition
6.An event that would allow more of the public to view
7.A literary event with Authors from New York
8.Our involvment with Pride NW
9.Outreach events prior to LA LUCHA TWENTY-TEN
With 5 days of celebrating we have a lot to think about and do so let’s start brainstorming to make LA LUCHA TWENY-TEN our best yet! Stay tune for next meeting date information. Remember to check back on the website for updates. Thank you so much for you time and interest in Portland Latino Gay Pride!
Sincerely,
Roland Ramirez, Planning Committee
